Simulation for Training and Operation Group – Next Generation

In 2008 a Forum was established for nations to be able to identify common needs for Simulation in Training and Operations. With the continued increase in the use of simulation in training (especially Army), and in order to coordinate the requirements and use of simulation systems for training among member nations and Partners, STOG became a fixed institution for the NATO Members and Partners.

The first meeting of the “Simulation for Training and Operation Group – Next Generation” (STOG-NG) took place last week, in Base Gagetown, Oromocto, Canada.

The focus of this Task Group (TG) is on the use of simulation to support education, training, and exercises in preparation, execution and evaluation for operations, particularly by focusing on initiating the standardisation simulation protocols, re-use of simulation components and improved interoperability between national and international simulation systems. Within the group, all levels of simulation in training (Live, Virtual and Constructive as well as Serious Gaming) are discussed and covered, in support for up to Brigade level in a joined and multinational environment (LAND FOCUSED).

Among other objectives, the STOG-NG ultimately aims at achieving a NATO Knowledge Hub of Simulation, which will provide knowledge and expertise to the different nations, and therefore achieve a compatibility for training with simulation within NATO.
