Sensors and Electronics Technology (SET) 49th Panel Business Meeting

23-27 May 2022, Bled (SVN)

Last week, the SET Panel successfully concluded its 2022 Spring Panel Business Meeting (PBM) at the Rikli Balance Hotel in Bled (SVN). Held as an “in person” meeting, it brought together 59 people representing 22 Nations and one NATO body (ACT).

During the week, the three Focus Groups – Multi Sensors and Electronics (MSE); Radio-Frequency Technology (RFT); and Optical Technology (OT) - drew upon current activities, the revision and decision of the future Programme of Work, the most recent technical developments and the latest emerging technologies. The Panel also heard several Topical Briefings on very interesting and militarily relevant topics (to include quantum, passive and active radars, Counter-IED, optical underwater communications). At the end of the PBM, the SET Panel approved three new Exploratory Teams (one particularly oriented to Young Scientists) and endorsed, for Board approval, three new Technical Teams (two Workshops and one Task Group). In addition, several national members indicated their interest in joining Cross-Panel Technical Teams that were proposed through other STO Panels.

In conjunction with the PBM, the SET Panel held the SET-312 Research Specialists’ Meeting (RSM) on Distributed Multi-Spectral/Statics Sensing on 23-24 May. The RSM brought together over 50 experts from 19 different Nations. During the event, 23 authors and 2 Keynote speakers presented their papers showcasing the latest research results in this field and opened the ground for discussions on the impact of the results on NATO operations and inspired the way ahead.

We would like to thank the Slovenian National Coordinator, Ms. Simona MUNDA, and the Slovenian SET Principal Panel Member, Mr. Sandi BOGATAJ, for their hospitality and the outstanding support given before and throughout our stay in Bled.
