Radar, Technology Watch
Technology Watch is an increasingly important activity within the NATO Science and Technology Organisation. The capture of emerging radar sensor technologies of relevance to the NATO mission is currently performed within the Radio Frequency (RF) Focus Group of the SET Panel drawing on the expertise represented within the Focus Group. The aim of this Workshop is to enhance this technology watch capture of emerging trends through a workshop activity involving external experts in various RF topic areas.
The RSM will focus on a small number of RF technology areas, of the order of six. For each technology area, an expert in the field will be invited to provide an overview of the current state-of-the-art in that area. The subject matter expert and a SET panel representative will then chair a discussion regarding potential future developments in the technology area and their anticipated military impact for both blue and red forces including timelines for maturation and exploitation. A session will also be included to capture the military perspective potentially with briefings on recent NATO operations and the current challenges facing NATO.
The specific topics to be covered in this workshop will be identified during the preparation and coordination phase. However, some potential topics include:
• Spaces situational awareness
• Over-the-Horizon Radar
• Defence Applications of THz imaging
• Counter SAR techniques
• Quantum Enabled Radar
• Passive radar
• Counter surveillance
• Large area surveillance
