Military communication is currently in a transition towards full networking with the objective of information superiority. For that, information must be transmitted in a fast and secure way, even in unknown and hostile spectral environments. Therefore, the radio needs to be able to intelligently adapt to this environment.
IST-140 investigates Cognitive Radio Network technology, which is a promising solution for achieving this adaptability. Solutions for Routing, Topology Control, Data Transport, and Network Management in infrastructure-based and ad-hoc Cognitive Radio Networks are explored, taking into account military requirements. That also includes the exchange of control information between radios.
