Military operations in urban environments are increasingly complex due to the close proximity of enemy targets to the civilian population and infrastructures. Close-range operations with traditional munitions present increased risk of collateral damage. Scalable or Selectable Yield Unitary (SYU) warheads offer a new approach to mitigating this concern by reducing the lethal radius. SYU warheads also offer logistics and cost savings advantages.
The project will identify participants, high level military needs, limitations, data sources, and relevant development efforts for SYU warheads. This information will be used to determine interest and scope for a follow-on Specialists’ Meeting.
The deliverables will include a brief report and a proposal for a SYU Warhead Specialists’ Meeting. The proposal will include objectives, topics, scope, deliverables, participants and resources identified. The ET results will support the follow-on Specialists’ Meeting to analyze and evaluate the impact of SYU warheads on future military operations.
