Background

This activity proposal is a result of MSG-ET-049, “High Fidelity Electro-Optic/Infrared Scene Simulation for Decision Support”, whose members voted unanimously to propose a follow-on Research Task Group (RTG). While each of the participating countries has some capability in the area of modeling and simulation to support sensor interpretation/deployment, each has focused on different components of the toolchain that may include scene composition/ generation, scene simulation, sensor performance assessment, recognition algorithm development, and decision support tool construction. There is much to be gained by sharing and collaboration.

Objectives

1. Establish the state of the art in techniques for high fidelity EO/IR scene simulation in NATO and partner nations. 2. Identify how these capabilities are being used to improve decision-making in support of operations, capability development and procurement in the individual nations. 3. Improve communications among engineers and scientists working in this topic area. 4. Develop best practice recommendations for Decision Support supported by EO/IR scene simulation.

Topics

1. Existing EO/IR simulation capabilities. 2. Common data and standards. 3. Common simulation components. 4. Physical processes required to represent given scenarios..
