Military operations are performed in a complex and ever changing environment, where the dynamic terrain and weather influence the outcome of the mission. To prepare operators for this challenging environment, the distributed simulation systems used for training, preparation and mission rehearsal should be able to represent such a dynamic environment. However, in current distributed simulation exercises it is not feasible to achieve a consistent representation of a dynamic synthetic environment for all participants. Therefore, over the past three years, MSG-156 has investigated what kind of architecture will allow for a dynamic and correlated representation of the environment in future distributed simulation exercises. A Modelling & Simulation as a Service (MSaaS) based architecture has been defined and the task group has successfully performed a concept demonstration experiment to test the architecture. This video provides an overview of the concept demonstration and the results of the task group efforts. For further information please contact the NATO M&S Group.
