Main_Body_Multi: The ACT-led activity to design and specify Federated Mission Networking (FMN) is now starting to also encompass studies on how to develop and include mobile networks at the lower tactical edge by the Tactical Edge Syndicate (TES). The FMN syndicate are not tasked to do research and standardization, but need other bodies to do the research that can lead to standardization. In the Information Systems Technology (IST) Panel there are many ongoing activities, with many inter-dependencies, which study topics that are very relevant for future FMN spirals. Thus, an event has been organized for participants from the different activities to meet and share information about the topic of their respective activities. The FMN syndicate will need results and standards soon.

The IST Panel is therefore hosting a Research Specialists Meeting (RSM) on “Communication Networks and Information Dissemination for the Tactical Edge”, to virtually take place on 18-19 May 2021. It aims to provide an event for information exchange and coordination between the IST Panel COM communications and network activities that have a bearing primarily on the Tactical Edge Syndicate of the FMN organization. These activities will also be of relevance to wider FMN work. This RSM is intended to be the first step in establishing a firm relationship with the FMN community and the wider IST work. Additionally, some of the high-level S&T direction from NATO Commands on future challenges will also be considered.
