Title: STO Specialist Team invites Experts for Exercise Data Collaborative Hackathon

Main_Body_Multi: The hackathon organized by the NATO STO inter-disciplinary Specialist Team SAS-IST-162 is an opportunity to bring data science methods and technology to extract new, data driven insights from exercises and explore development of analytical and predictive models. After the hackathon, the experience will be used to develop recommendations on a structured approach to make the most of large scale exercise data sets, and improve the training value of such exercises from both an operational and data exploitation perspective.

SAS-IST-162 will conduct this unique hackathon at the NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCIA) in the Hague, the Netherlands on 2-5 November and 8-11 November 2021. Through this event, the team wants to determine how large, classified, diverse datasets from exercises can be used to reconstruct operational decision making to improve training and analysis value.

NATO military exercises are crucial to prepare NATO commanders and forces for operations in peace, crisis and conflict. They provide a means for the Alliance to test and validate its concepts, procedures, systems and tactics. Many exercises also yield huge amounts of data which gives an opportunity to apply new technologies to better address this challenge. Analysis of exercise data conducted by NATO (NCIA and Joint Analysisze and Lessons Learned Centre) has already shown (in NATO STO inter-disciplinary Research Workshop IST-178) the potential of big data analysis and visualization to assist data-driven exercise assessment and to uncover previously unknown aspects of exercises.

Experts from NATO Nations and NATO Organizations interested in participating in this exclusive hackathon are requested to complete the Application Form by 20 August 2021 at https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=DQSIkWdsW0yxEjajBLZtrQAAAAAAAAAAAAMAADDCy2hUQjg3S0RZNlNKTzZMNElDUlE2RDMzOFpVRC4u.
