Main_Body_Multi: On 14-15 December 2021, the NATO Modelling and Simulation Group (NMSG), in coordination with the Office of the Chief Scientist and the NATO International Staff Defence Investment Division (IS/DI), successfully conducted a first workshop on Distributed Synthetic Training (DST). The hybrid event attracted more than 60 attendees from 14 Nations and 10 NATO entities. On Tuesday, 14 December, the NMSG Chair, Dr Robert SIEGFRIED, supported by IS/DI staff, led a series of discussions on operational needs, vision, results of applied research and standardization work and national and NATO efforts, including potential opportunities for cooperation. On Wednesday, 15 December, the discussion focused on how DST may be leveraged to meet training shortfalls, synergies with NATO efforts to develop a next generation simulation capability, and proposals for the way forward, including a roadmap. The NMSG and the broader DST community look forward to transforming this initial momentum into tangible action and results for our warfighters, including development of a persistent synthetic training environment, available on-demand to help ensure readiness. You can find a short video about DST here: https://youtu.be/LlkZuDRs5KE.
