Main_Body_Multi: The annual International Training Technology Exhibition & Conference (IT2EC) is Europe’s primary forum for representatives from across the military, civil sector, industry and academia to connect and share knowledge about simulation, training and education.

For more than 15 years, the STO’s NATO Modelling and Simulation Group (NMSG) has had a constant presence at IT2EC held in multiple cities across Europe. This year’s event took place at the London ExCeL Congress & Exhibition Center.

The series of NATO events at IT2EC started with a seminar of the Simulation Interoperability Standards Organization supported by NMSG members, followed by two sessions in the main Conference. In the first one, focused on NATO Modelling and Simulation as a Service (MSaaS), experts from the operational end-user domain and industry representatives addressed the identified requirements and challenges which influence the future use of MSaaS in operational environments (from small-scale national experimentation to multi-national exercises). The goal was to advance the further development of the MSaaS approach as a potential new way to deliver and use simulation software. The objectives of the second session was to inform the defence simulation community about the status of the Distributed Synthetic Training (DST) capability development effort in NATO, present the roadmap and reach out and engage stakeholders in joining NATO DST initiative.

The joint NATO STO-ACT exhibition stand displayed the most relevant ongoing efforts related to simulation in support of training and education undertaken by the two NATO organizations. Members of the NMSG as well as the CSO’s M&S Coordination Office members of staff provided visitors with detailed information on the current research efforts related to Modelling and Simulation in the Collaborative Programme of Work.
