Main_Body_Multi: The NATO STO held a special event this month to strengthen its relationships with STO Partners, bringing together Partner Ambassadors and Military Representatives for discussions on what the STO can offer to its partners, and how they fit within the broader NATO Partnership landscape. The STO Partnership Event was held on 23 November at NATO Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium.

Partnerships have always played a key role in expanding and enriching STO network. STO Enhanced Opportunity Partners (Australia and Japan) engage with the STO in a wide range of activities, providing scientific perspectives and regional insights that help to enhance STO research. Mutual engagement within the STO helps both Allies and partner nations to tackle common security challenges in science and technology.

The STO Partnership Event focused on emerging and disruptive technologies (EDTs) and innovation, and featured a presentation of the Science & Technology Trends: 2023-2043 publication. In remarks delivered at the event, Dr Bryan Wells, NATO Chief Scientist, highlighted the crucial role that the STO plays in advancing science and technology across the Alliance, noting that the NATO 2022 Strategic Concept and the NATO 2030 strategy emphasise the importance of maintaining NATO’s technological edge.

The event also featured presentations from Mr John-Mikal Størdal, Director of the STO Collaboration Support Office, and Dr Giovanni Sembenini, Deputy Director of the STO Centre of Maritime Research, who both spoke about the work of their respective bodies and the opportunities they present for partners.
