Activity title: Radar Signature Measurement and Validation of a UCAV Model
Activity Reference: SET-329
Panel: SET
Security Classification: NATO UNCLASSIFIED
Status: Active
Activity type: RTG
Start date: 2023-11-02T00:00:00Z
Actual End date: 2026-11-02T00:00:00Z
Keywords: radar signature measurement and prediction
Background: One of the promises and concerns in today’s air defence is the rapid development of unmanned combat aerial vehicles (UCAV). For electronic warfare, the electromagnetic scattering characteristics of the UCAV are required and can be obtained either by measurements and/or simulations. For a computational methodology to be useful, validation of the method is an essential prerequisite. For partially transparent or low-observable complex objects such as UCAV validation data is difficult to come by.
In order to increase the confidence in the prediction methods, SET-TG-252 has designed and built a validation model of a low-observable UCAV. Measurements on this model will be the basis for the validation of the prediction methods on a military relevant target.
Objectives: The main objective of the group is to perform RCS measurements on the UCAV model of SET-252.
The measurements will be used both to validate the various prediction methods of the members and to compare amongst each other.
Topics: 1. Determination of the final shape of the validation model, and subsequent CAD development.
2. Measurements of the validation model in X-band (five members have committed).
3. Postprocessing and cross-comparison of measurements
4. Blind-test simulations and post-test simulations for validation and explanation of differences between measurements and simulations
5. Assessment of prediction capability for low-observable targets
6. Establishment of a database with measurement and simulation results
