Sensors and Technology for Defence Against Terrorism

RTO-MP-SET-125

The past has shown that the terrorist threat is diverse and unpredictable (starting with the demolishing of the World Trade Center by terrorist attack on 11 September 2001 and continuing with daily attacks in the region of Israel, Irak and Afghanistan for instance). To meet the increase of imminence to protect the troops and civilians will require consideration of collective security not only from the military point of view, but also cooperation with multiple non-military organizations. It is important to detect critical situations and recognize dangerous conditions as early as possible, to effect appropriate reactions. This will require accelerating the development of sensors, systems and technology that will contribute to the Surveillance, Reconnaissance, Identification and Defence Against Terrorism (DAT) capability. This NATO symposium aims to establish a comprehensive specialized forum to present the most recent results on all topics related to sensors, technology, instrumentation, measurement systems, measurement procedure, signal and image processing systems, intelligent measurement systems, robotic systems, and applications for homeland security, contraband detection, and personal safety. The main objective of the symposium is to enable exchange of information on: • Adaptation and integration of current defence and non-defence sensors and technologies for application to DAT • Future innovative concepts and integrated sensors systems that are being researched or developed and applicable
