Magnetic Recording of Flight Test Data

AGARD-AG-160-05

This AGARDograph of the AGARD Flight Test Instrumentation Series first assesses the general requirement for a flight test data acquisition system and discusses the complete system. It then describes some of the more important individual functions of the system. For the recording aspects emphasis is placed on the basic recording process, its capabilities and problems, and the techniques necessary to overcome its shortcomings. Basic design principles of airborne tape transports, the characteristics of write/read heads and magnetic tape, the problems involved in specifying a requirement for a flight test data acquisition system and the likely nature of future systems are discussed.
