STOAbstractExternal: The Sri Lankan government and its forces are involved in a war against the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Ealam (LTTE), considered by many as the most ruthless terrorist organization in the world during the past two decades. This paper discusses briefly the origins of this terrorist group, the problem they present to the world, the overall goals the LTTE plans on achieving and the peace efforts made by various successive governments to solve the dispute. The paper also discusses the efforts made during past two decades to suppress the LTTE militarily and why a military solution seems appropriate. The paper concludes with a recommended approach that presents a viable solution to the problem and achieves a sustainable peace.
