2019 STO Early Careers Event

Dr. Tim Lamballais Tessensohn is a research scientist at TNO DSS working on the intersection between Operational Research, AI, and Autonomous Systems for military applications.

The NATO Science and Technology Organization (STO) gave a group of young scientists the unique opportunity to present their work during the organization’s key meeting of the year.

The NATO S&T Early Careers Event aims at recognizing their value and relevant contribution towards the Alliance’s global technological edge and leading R&D.

“The Use of Gamification Methods for Training Future Officers on the Use of Cyber Capabilities in Military Operations”, “Artificial Intelligence for Anti-Submarine Warfare” and “Surface Acoustic Wave sensor”were some of the topics presented in the Early Careers Event held on 18 September 2019 in Bucharest, Romania, during the Science and Technology Board (STB) meeting.

Selected candidates had three minutes to pitch their key ideas to the STB in the Partnership Session in order to attract the STB members’ attention. Later, they further advertised their work during the poster exhibition set up to facilitate informal discussions.

The STB has decided to make the ECS event a recurrent element of the STB Fall agenda. Invitations to participate will be sent via the STO-CSO Panels and Group, the CMRE, and the host nation, ensuring the maximum breadth of scientific disciplines and personal backgrounds.

It is a great occasion for Early Careers Scientists, namely graduates in the first 2-7 years of their careers, to build their knowledge of NATO, present their research work to a wide audience, and network with a diverse collection of international colleagues and peers from across the NATO Alliance.
