International Conference on Military Communication and Information Systems (ICMCIS)

The International Conference on Military Communication and Information Systems (ICMCIS) is an international conference with a 20-year tradition, and it remains the premier conference in Europe for presenting research results related to Military Communication and Information Systems (CIS) matters.

The conference was founded with the vision of creating a forum for the exchange of ideas regarding development as well as implementation of advanced information and communications technologies and services in the military. It provides a unique opportunity to discuss different points of view and share experience with colleagues from European and NATO Nations and organisations involved in Military CIS.

In 2021, the conference will have a particular focus on the application of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to the area of Military Situational Awareness and Decision Making. A special session will be included in the conference regarding “Military Response to Pandemics: Tools supporting situational awareness and decision making”. Papers submitted to this special session could include coverage of case studies or innovative developments exploring the utility of approaches for defence and security including data and visual analytics, specialised communications. The deadline for the call for papers is 1 February 2021. The papers are peer-reviewed and published through the IEEE eXplore.

Additionally to the normal conference papers, ICMCIS 2021 will include a data challenge on a topic related to the special interest area of Application of AI & ML for Military Situational Awareness and Decision Making.

Although the plan remains to hold the conference physically at the NCI Academy, in Oeiras, Portugal, the Programme Committee is also prepared to move to a hybrid or virtual setting. This conference is organised by the NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCIA), with the support of the NATO Science and Technology Organization (STO), the National Research Institute of Poland (NASK), and the Ministry of Defence of Portugal.
