 On Wednesday June 23, the Center for European Policy Analysis (CEPA) hosted a public event to discuss allied Science & Technology cooperation for defence and to identify what more transatlantic can do to develop, acquire, and integrate emerging defense technologies, which technologies should be prioritized and how these technologies compare with China and Russia’s priorities.
The discussion was based on the technologies highlighted in the ”Science & Technology Trends 2020-2040” report undertaken by the NATO Science & Technology Organization (STO).
The event saw the participation of the NATO Chief Scientist Dr.Bryan Wells.
The NATO Chief Scientist Dr. Wells, who is also the senior scientific advisor to NATO leadership as well as the Chair of the Science & Technology board provided his insights and explained why NATO can undertake the roles of coordinator and standards-setter for allied efforts around defense technologies.
Dr. Wells described the steps ahead to integrate Emerging and Disruptive Technologies (EDTs) into national militaries.
Dr. Wells also described the NATO Science & technology Organization (STO) and provided the background to NATO’s identification of the set of EDTs for the Alliance to focus on, and how allied leaders have agreed to move forward with these priorities.
The NATO Chief Scientist, who is also member of the NATO innovation board talked about the creation of the transatlantic defense accelerator, announced during the NATO summit 2021.
